Mr. Khan was born in Tooting (London) in October 1970 as one of eight siblings. His father was a bus driver and mother a tailor. He attended Earlsfield primary school then went to Ernest Bevin comprehensive school. He hoped to study dentistry but because of his erudition a teacher recommended he studied law. After obtaining a degree at the London Metropolitan University he worked as a law pupil trainee in 1994 and in 2005 he became a full partner in Louis Christian Law firm. As a lawyer he acted in actions against racism, employment regulations and judicial reviews. Sadiq was a councillor for the borough of Wandsworth from 1994 and elected as a Labour MP in 2005. In August 2006 he signed an open letter to Tony Blair criticising his UK foreign policy. In 2015 Sadiq Khan was elected for the third time as MP for Tooting and Wandsworth. He refused to take the pay rise awarded to MPs in 2010 stating that, 'At a time when people throughout the country are suffering a pay freeze I don't think it is appropriate for MPs to accept a pay rise. In May 2016 he resigned as an MP to stand as London Mayor which he won beating Boris Johnson decisively. He is the first Muslim Mayor of London and of any European city. His vision for London is a simple one, 'I want all Londoners to have the same opportunities that our city gave me; a home they can afford: a high-skilled job with decent pay: an affordable and modern transport system and a safe, clean and healthy environment'
