Nigel Farage is a right-wing British politician. He is the leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) and a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for South East England.Born in 1964 to Guy Justus Oscar Farage, a stockbroker, and his wife Barbara née Stevens, he attended Dulwich College in London. On leaving school he went to work in the City as a commodities trader before entering politics in 1977 when he joined the Conservative Party, which he left in 1993 to join UKIP.

Farage has been leader of UKIP since 2010, and previously from 2006-2009, standing down in the intervening period to contest the seat of Buckingham in the 2010 general election. He came third.

Although UKIP are seen predominantly as a threat to the Conservative Party, Farage maintains that UKIP take votes away from all of the major parties, and in recent years he has attempted to broaden UKIP's appeal by moving them from an anti-EU party to an anti-establishment one. Farage plans to stand as an MP for the constituency of South Thanet in the 2015 general election.
