Mhiria was born on the 12th of September 1994 in Paisley, close to Glasgow. She attended 'Our Lady of Lourdes' secondary school, gaining a place at Glasgow university in 2014. Mhiria achieved a first class honours degree in Politics and Public Policy, but during her final year at Glasgow she was elected as an MP representing Paisley & Renfrewshire for the SNP ( the Scottish National Party ) This was an unprecedented achievement as she was the youngest MP since 1832 and is the first under 21 year old to be elected since the electoral Administration Act of 2006 which reduced the age of candidates from 21 to 18.
In her eloquent maiden speech ( which went viral on the internet ) she heavily criticised the present Conservative government stating that austerity measures were hitting the poorest in society and that the food banks exponential expansion was a sign that the welfare state was failing. Her political heroes are Tony Benn, Keir Hardy and Margo Macdonald. See below for a screenshot of Mhairi quoting "the only 20-year-old in the whole of the UK the chancellor is prepared to help with housing" while making her maiden speech in parliament.
