He was born in Atlanta on January 15th 1929. King attended segregated school and gained a doctorate in1955 from Boston University where he met and married Coretta. He then became pastor of Dexter avenue Baptist church. While acting as a member of the committee for 'The National Advancement of Coloured people' he organised the non-violent boycott of segregated buses which lasted 382 days. After this success he became leader of the civil rights movement taking his non-violent ideas from Ghandi and Christianity. After a long struggle, while suffering abuse and death threats, he obtained voting rights for negroes from Lyndon Johnson. At the age of 35 he was the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace prize and donated the money to the civil rights campaign. In April 1968 he was assassinated aged only 39.
